Please click on Listen To Tracks and hear the first two cuts off the
Ivana Marie album. This album and others will soon be for sale on this site. I play all of the instruments, except sax, which is provided by Dave Vanpatten, courtesy of Hot Air Wind and Reed. Dave is one of my oldest and dearest friends. You will hear him on some of the next songs to come, presented here. We do mostly old Rock and Roll and Classic Rock from the 50s through the 70s. I will also have a folk album with a lot of the old favorites coming out in the fall or early next year. Please don't miss it.
The Wrays and associates
While you're at it, if you are into old rockers of the day, check out our old friend, the late Legendary Link Wray and learn about him, his friends, family and fellow musicians and associates in his band, the famous Wraymen. I had the good fortune of occasionally playing on stage with Link as a replacement guitar or bass player when someone was missing and recording in his brother's, the late Ray Vernon, studio along with Richie Mitchell, bass player and Roger Thompson, drummer in our group, The London Thymes. Those were great times and the Wrays were wonderful people to work with who looked after us as their own. We were just kids. Richie toured with Link as one of the Wraymen.
Another old friend of ours, musician and singer who played and recorded with Link Wray was the late Jack Van Horn. He was the one who was responsible for our association with the Wrays to begin with. Jack was an awesome guitarist and song writer. I had the distinct pleasure of playing with Jack and Richie in the Fender Benders Rock & Roll band back in the sixties after the original group, Jack, Richie, J.D. Fetzer and Jimmy Carter went separate ways. The music was great. The on stage camaraderie, jokes, cutting up, ribbing, lyric swapping and laughing were priceless. We had so much fun back then. We did it for the love of the art and the approving responses from the audiences. We played in many of the clubs in D.C., Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland which are almost all gone now. It was such a kick for us to work with Jack. He was truly the bomb.
Richie and I are still close friends with Sherry Wray, Ray Vernon's daughter. She and I and her daughters, Shala and Erin, work together on musical en devours and business matters. They are of the same true, rich blood and good stock. We love Sherry for who she is. Her hard work and dedication to the preservation of her family's legacy has been responsible for movie deals for Link's music, reproduction projects and promotions.
I would like to pay tribute to Greg Laxton for his contribution and control of the wraysshack3tracks.com/ web site, linked here and above, helping to keep the legacy alive
Thanks so much for dropping in for a visit.
Best wishes,
John
